An ill wind will not solve our problems nor will questionable business practices So, lemme get this straight. “First Wind,” or “UPC,” or whatever they are calling themselves this month, has decided to blow the cover of their big public relations coup by pulling their show-case turbines because of defective blades. Okay. So, they rushed to get up the most visible of the turbines, make a big splash in the community and get folks used to (if that’s possible) these invasive monsters and do the warm and fuzzy dance with governmental subsidies and grants (read that; “OUR money!”). And now, they have to engage in remedial maneuvering to fix substandard equipment? Hoo, boy. What a debacle!
And, in anticipation of another coup, UPC got re-named “First Wind” in order to be on the same page and to tie in with their chosen suitor, the Spanish giant, Iberdrola, who is using a photo of their towers in print advertising representing the numeral “one” as in “First,” in power. Hmm. And, Mr. Schumer is pushing The Honorable Rafael Epstein, (NYS PSC Administrative Law Judge), and the Public Service Commission to agree to all this nonsense? And we’re supposed to sit on our hands and agree to this wholesale sell-out of our electric power, distribution and management? Just how dumb do these profiteers think we are?
Now, Schumer wants the Spaniards to set aside a bundle of cash to “offset” any price increases in electricity, even though they have stated that this buyout “would not increase costs to ratepayers.” Give me a break! The beat goes on and the smokescreen never clears.
What IS clear is that the entire issue is now going to be examined by Attorney General Andrew Coumo … at long last. Where has it ever been proven that a foreign company can enhance the quality or value of a previously American-owned corporation? Speculation is rampant but the truth will out. An ill wind will not solve our problems nor will questionable business practices.
Let’s keep OUR power here and get the municipalities to conserve proportionally as much as they demand we do in rural communities. That in itself will help with the power shortage. |
